Hosting and Rules for the Spinning Spades Club

Firstly, welcome to the Spinning Spades Club.

If you wish to host events in the Spinning Spades Club (hereafter referred to as SSC), please contact Percy to be put on the hostlist.

 Scheduling an event.

This is actually simpler than you may think. Go to the homepage of the SSC and if you are on the hostlist, you will see the following button available at the top right of the page:

 Add Event
(Note: the link below the button will take you to a more granulated event scheduler, that would allow you to even schedule a 5 minute event, 2 minutes from now.)

Clicking the button will take you to the next screen: (Images cropped to focus on the essentials)

  1. WHEN will the event take place?
  1. How long will it last?
  1. Prep time
  1. Got everything filled in? Click ‘Schedule Event’ to fill in the details.

  1. Obviously this is a Spades place, so ‘Races’ or ‘Hoverboat’ would be silly as the type. Most obvious choice would be ‘Card game’. However: It is allowed to use ‘Class’ (to skill in Teacher) or ‘Club’ (to skill in Clubleader)
  2. This is shown in your time, so don’t worry about ‘There time’. When you opted ‘NOW’ on the previous page, you’ll only have the option to select the next upcoming half hour as the start. Depending on the ‘when’ option chosen in the previous screen, the list is either long or short.
  3. Obviously you want this to be ‘catchy’. ‘Bored’ as an event title is not recommended, since your event will show up in ‘Happening Now
  4. Please try to keep this short and to the point. I always use the following text:
Cardgame. Newbies welcome. Griefers *will* be banned indefinitely
(Of course you can use your own description)
  5. Do not ever use this. Charging for admission will get you removed from the hostlist.
  6. Select from dropdown. I usually use: ‘Life in There
  7. The option is normally ‘hidden’. Click ‘Show advanced options’ to get the list shown.
  8. Team assignment is not used in Spades Games. Just leave ‘as is
  9. The Skill restrictions were obviously designed by somebody on crack and make no sense. (Don’t get me started), so just leave ‘as-is
  10. This is absolutely forbidden to use and will get you removed from the hostlist. When running an event, you must be present at all times (connection problems notwithstanding)
  11. This is also forbidden to be used, since it effectively can lock me out of the house and in emergencies, the event can not be cancelled by me.
  12. Use this with care. It will tell people when they step out, that a place will be held. This is repeated by the system over and over again and annoys the snot out of most people. Preferred use: NOT.
  13. It is appreciated if you use the members of ‘Spinning Spades’ as the co-host group.
  14. You have now filled in the essentials. Click 'Schedule Event' to get the overview and see if you did it right.

As the orange text at the top already suggests: This is an overview page only, so you can correct any errors you missed.

The event will not be scheduled until you hit ‘Schedule event’.

Inviting people to your event

 Invitations

This is your ‘main event page’.

From here you can do your invites and see who signed up.

Once people are signed up, you can use this page to make them ‘VIP’ if necessary.

You may have noticed that the max capacity for the SSC has been set to 35.

If your signups exceed the max. capacity, the people that are VIP will get preferential treatment in entering. Remember: Full = Full.

Click ‘invitations’ to start inviting people.

Invite tab

This is pretty much self-explanatory.

Do yourself a favor and only invite groups that you know are into Spades.

Inviting Buggy/Paintball/Hoverboard teams will only gain you enemies and a lot of unwanted Drama™

Click 'Invite' button after you selected the groups to invite.

Congratulations! You have just set up your first event

The main rules:

  1. I maintain a manual hostlist and reserve the right to not put you on this list.
  2. When you set up an event, I expect you to be there for the duration. Not present = Event cancelled by me. This happens more than once: You will be removed from the hostlist, unless you can convince me it was unavoidable.
  3. You will not ever charge for admission to my club. When caught you will be removed from the hostlist
  4. Invite-only events are absolutely forbidden and will result in removal from the hostlist.
  5. Events must be Spades-related. ‘Come see my auctions’ or ‘Yard sale’ events will be removed immediately and will result in denial of hosting rights.
  6. Do not pick up anything in the club that does not belong to you (especially game tables), or change the windows/floor/walls. Items that do not belong to you will disappear when you try to pick them up. Starting a Spades-event without any tables is poor practice.

Enjoy hosting at the Spinning Spades Club.
